Why on earth are we writing a blog?

While some people catch the bug and keep travelling forever most of us who travel return home at some point. No-one talks about this part, when you have become a different person with new experiences behind you and a lust for life that will never leave. You crave adventure and (at least at first) still have that feeling of wanting to seize the day and make the most of every moment.

This is the spirit that we aim to embrace with our blog. The wanderlust doesn’t stop but you don’t have to be a million miles from your loved ones and home to fuel it and capture the best of life. Climbing a Scottish mountain is one of the best adventures!

“Perhaps we only leave so we may once again arrive,

To get a birds eye view of what it means to be alive.

For there is beauty in returning, Oh how wonderful, how strange,

To see that everything is different but know it’s only you who’s changed” (Erin Hanson)

We aim to live each day to the fullest, filling the day with what makes us happy, even it’s just a large slice of chocolate cake and a good night’s sleep. Life is the adventure you make it and we hope that this blog can inspire and motivate us (and maybe you?) to seize the moment and keep seeing the world.

We also hope to show you that you don’t need to wait for that right person or the right moment to come along to have these adventures. You yourself can go out and have them by yourself tomorrow if you wanted. As they say, the time is now!

The Maths

We did the hard work for you and worked out the maths behind our free time! The average person will work 233 days a year. Between 5pm and 11pm (a sensible bedtime!) there are six hours, every year this is 1398 hours of fun to be had after work (okay maybe take away a few of those hours for all those boring life chores). But then you get to add in our weekends and holidays – that’s a whole 36% of year to fill up. So much time for adventures and activities!

But don’t worry none of this is going to see us breaking the bank for our adventures – we are Scottish after all!

SO… Who are we?

We are two 20 something girls from Scotland. Happiest in the sun, outside and usually eating. Caitlin spent the last year living and teaching in Ecuador while exploring South America, while Lorna headed the other way and ended up in Australia for two years. We’ve been friends since we were in high school and bonded over a shared love of long walks and good food.

Where are we at now?

Lorna is a 24 year old criminology graduate, currently working in the Public Sector and living in central scotland.  She spends a lot of her time running around and is always looking for the next challenge. Mainly exercising to justify her love of chocolate raisins! Happiest on the west coast of Scotland.

Caitlin graduated in International Business and is currently working in Scottish tourism planning people’s Scottish adventures. Having spent a year in South America and a year in Spain she is in love with all things Spanish! Her favourite hobbies are eating, trying new restaurants and exercising to allow this existence. Happy place is on a beach or in the mountains – don’t make her choose!!!

Three words to describe each other…..

Lorna would describe Caitlin as Bubbly, Ambitious and Honest.

Caitlin would describe Lorna as Vibrant, Hardworking and Hilarious

To summarise….

So we both missed the boat on starting a blog while we were actually traveling (typical!) but now we are back in (occasionally sunny) Scotland and we don’t want the adventures to end. So here we are finding the adventures between the 9-5 jobs and trying to keep that traveller spirit alive!

Here’s hoping we keep this going eh?
